Masala chai is a spiced black tea from India, simmered with milk and a blend of warming spices — usually cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper. ("Chai" simply means "tea," so chai tea is a bit like saying tea tea — we don't mind.) It's richer and far spicier than a coffee-shop chai latte, and it's the tea our family has been brewing for generations. Read the full story of masala chai →

Five things, every month: a sample of our signature masala chai, a letter from the Chai Up family, an exclusive recipe card, custom themed stickers, and an inspirational postcard. The theme, the artwork and the stories change each month — the chai is the one delicious constant.

$9.95 CAD a month, (with free shipping within Canada). There's no contract and no minimum — it's month to month, and you can cancel any time.

We currently mail to Canada and the US. Envelopes go out in the first week of each month and usually arrive within 5–10 days. If you're outside our shipping zone, join the waitlist and we'll write to you the moment we reach your mailbox.

Subscribe by the 25th and you'll get that month's theme in the next mail-out. After that, you'll be first in line for the following month — and we'll email you the moment your envelope is on its way.

Yes, any time. Cancel from your account before your next billing date and you won't be charged again — and you'll still receive any envelope you've already paid for. No phone calls, no retention scripts, no hard feelings.

Yes — and it's one of our favourite things to mail. Choose a 3, 6 or 12-month gift at checkout, add a personal note, and we'll tuck it into the first envelope. You can have it sent straight to their door.

Each envelope holds 10 grams of our signature blend — enough for roughly 5 to 10 cups, depending on how much you add! It's a proper try-before-you-buy, not a token pinch.

Yes. Masala chai is made with a black tea base, so it does contain caffeine — around 20 to 50 mg per cup, roughly. Our Masala Chai spice blend on its own though does not contain caffeine.

The blend itself is vegan — just tea leaves and whole spices, no dairy or animal products. Traditionally masala chai is simmered with dairy milk, but oat and almond milk both work beautifully.

The Chai Up spice blend consists of; black cardamom seeds, green cardamom seeds, cloves, basil, ajwain, fennel seeds, ginger powder, cinnamon, oregano, and licorice plant. All natural, no preservatives!

Simmer the blend in water for a few minutes, add milk, bring it back to a gentle simmer, sweeten to taste and strain. Exact measurements are printed on the recipe card in every envelope, and there's a full step-by-step guide: How to brew masala chai

Yes — every blend that appears in the Chai Up Snail Mail Club is available full-size in our shop.

Mail happens. Write to us at hello@chaiup.com within 30 days and we'll post you a replacement, no questions asked.
